Can You Run a Zeddflow Pump Directly from a Solar Panel?
Not quite, and here's why. A typical 60W solar panel doesn't output a steady 12V. Under full sun, its open-circuit voltage usually sits around 21V — nearly double what your pump is rated for. Wiring a 21V panel straight into a 12V-rated Zeddflow pump risks overdriving the motor, and because solar output constantly fluctuates with cloud cover and sun angle, you'd have no way to keep the voltage stable even if it started out right.
That's where a buck converter comes in.

What Is a Buck Converter, and Why Do You Need One?
A buck converter (also called a DC-DC step-down regulator) sits between your solar panel and your pump. Its job is simple: take the panel's variable, higher-voltage output and "step it down" to a clean, consistent 12V (or 14V, depending on how you want to tune performance — more on that below) before it reaches the pump.
For a Zeddflow solar pump setup, you want an adjustable buck converter, not a fixed one. This lets you dial in the exact output voltage rather than being locked to a single setting, which matters because of the next part.

Keep in mind: flow rate drops as lift increases. The higher you push water vertically, the less volume you'll get per hour — that trade-off doesn't change no matter how you tune the voltage.
Don't Overlook Your Tubing
Voltage isn't the only variable that affects performance — tube diameter matters just as much. Zeddflow's lift specs are tested with 9mm ID (inner diameter) soft tubing, and that's what we recommend for real-world setups. Going wider than 9mm actually reduces lift capacity, since a larger tube gives the water more room to fall back rather than being pushed forward efficiently. Stick close to 9mm ID for the flow and lift numbers to match what's on the spec sheet.
